Screech Owl Cam' Operational

Some video capture hardware turned-out to have stopped working in the two years since the last nesting, but after some pulling of hair, swapping of hardware, and editing of web pages, Chris’ Eastern Screech Owl Nest Box Cam’ is live again.

What with surgery and an unknown recovery period starting tomorrow, I can’t say there’ll be regular status reports, or daily image round-ups, but the video will be live. (If one frame per minute counts as “live”.)

Enjoy.

Wish you a speedy recovery. Thanks for all the detail on this site. I have had a great time following the owls with my 5 yr old son. To date, we have built and placed two owl boxes around our home based on your inspiration! And I see that we have a sleeping owl in the box today!!

  6. Dear Chris, either your surgery and recovery are not so difficult as imagined and you are able to post these comments yourself (as well as two comments on your owl site!), for which we are all grateful, or you have given someone else the "keys to the city". I sincerely hope it is the former. I send you strengthening thoughts and a postcard should be not to hard to scare up...

Greats news about your knee and love the lady owl in the box. It will be a great year! Other good news is that everyone will have health insurance. So excited!

  9. More knee news, since Susan brought it up: To my surprise the real post-surgical pain waited until Sunday to kick in. That was a whole lot of no fun, even with the help of good pain pills. Things are less bad today, but it's still early (for me).

  10. Glad to see the owls are cooperating this year. Hope you have a complete and speedy recovery, and take it easy! Us "old" guys (I still have my old 5.25 FDD and that brick 20MB harddrive) have to be careful.

  11. Surgery recoveries are never fun, but at least you're up and mobile. Thanks from Indianapolis for getting the camera/box up and operational (no pun intended) again. We need to get Mme. Owl to move that stuff off the camera so we can see her better!

  12. Your "meet the innards" section shows an overhead camera that I'm assuming you use to count the eggs when she's away from the nest. Is there any possibility we might get to see some of those overhead shots some day? It would be a nice view.
