Mme. Owl is Spending the Day in the Nest Box

Mme. Owl is currently sitting on the floor of the nest box in a brooding posture. If nesting hasn't strictly begun yet, it looks as though it will do so in next the day or two at the most.

I'm not sure when I'll have the Owl Cam' up and running again. If I can get it running tonight, I will. But, if that doesn't work out, things immediately become very unpredictable, as I'll be undergoing surgery on Friday, and nobody can tell me what the recovery period will be, or just how limited I'll be during that time.

  1. While we hope you get the cam up before becoming out of commission, what is much more important is that you get well quickly to enjoy "your" owls!

  2. Sorry to hear about the surgery - more shoulder/hand issues?

Thanks so much for your work getting the feed going this year - your cam is unique; and I have missed seeing it :)

If I didn't live halfway across the country I would offer any help I could! (and I am sure I am not alone!)

  3. Ayla1209,

    Thanks for the kind words.

It’s not a shoulder/hand issue this time around, but knee damage that’s been causing trouble for a while. Before that damage occurred, I was, to my considerable surprise (having never liked sports one iota, and having begun life as the kid at school that nobody ever wanted on their team, and who was routinely beaten-up by the school "jocks" and other thugs), quite a good amateur athlete, if I do say so myself.

If I can get my knees working properly again, while I may never be as good as I was, I hope to at least get back into reasonable shape, and shake-off some of the accumulating deleterious effects of middle age. (To say nothing of being able to do ordinary things again, like climbing ladders, without experiencing random, shooting pains.)

The surgery is complete, and I'm back at home beginning the recovery process. I expect that it'll be some time before I know whether this pain and expense was worth it or not. I have my metaphorical fingers crossed, which seems to be about all that I can do for the time being.

    Wish me luck.

    ----Chris
